Dazed and Confused Student Competition

So, Dazed is launching a photography competition with D&AD Student Awards 2013 and inviting you to create a portrait of contemporary youth. For inspiration, and to chow off, we've attached a gallery of shots from theprint version of the magazine that we'd submit, including the flawless shot by Collier Schorr from June 2010 above.
Find a single iconic image that will remain as viscerally relevant in a decade as it was when it was shot. Shoot your friends, your peers. Shoot reality, fantasy, people with interesting stories and great ideas. Speak your own visual language, and say it loud. We can't wait to see what you show us!
The deadline is wednesday 20 March 2013, click here to enter, and use the hashtag #studentawards. Good luck!

Alessandra Sanguinetti - Two Cousins

As a child she spent her summers in the Argentine Pampas. Having become a photographer, Alessandra Sanguinetti met Guillermina and Belinda there. Fascinated by their simple happiness and their whimsical games, she has followed them with her camera every summer for the last eight years.

Paul Graham - Television Portraits

In his series of "television portraits Graham produced a sequence of close-up portraits, in the first, some of his most tender pictures, of friends watching television, that offered the rare, intense experience of looking at people looking.

And a great article by The Guardian on his work:

Billy Monk - Nighclub photographs

Billy Monk - Nightclub Photographs from on Vimeo.
Billy Monk began photographing in the 1960s while working as a bouncer at the Catacombs club in Cape Town's dock area. As David Goldblatt has written 'These are photographs by an insider of insiders for insiders. If inhibitions were lowered by the seemingly vast quantities of brandy and Coke that were imbibed, trust, nevertheless, is powerfully evident.'

Monk stopped photographing at the club in 1969. Ten years later his contacts and negatives were discovered and in 1982 the work was exhibited at the Market Gallery, Johannesburg. Monk could not make the opening and two weeks later, en route to seeing the show, he became involved in an argument and was shot dead.

Elena Bulygina - Barber Shop

Make knees younger, soften skin, remove all wrinkles and imperfections, enlarge breasts, make the butt smaller, flatten stomach, even the light and color, clear the stray hair, remove everything that is not perfect..."
Most of human body images we see in media and advertising are retouched. Body in modern culture is far from real bodies around, everybody knows that fashion shoots create false reality but it doesn't make them less appealing or less persuading.
For this project I asked people what they would want to change in their bodies. After taking photos, I retouched them as I do on my daily job. Working in the industry which portrays people with BMI<19 and often without nasolabial folds, really helps to notice how beautiful everyone around is.
In computer games you can always visit Barber Shop and change your in-game appearance in a few clicks – something that would be in extreme demand in real life, reflecting different ideas of identity in an attempt to deal with self-doubt.
How do we see ourselves? How do we see others? How can a beauty be measured by the width of a hand?
