Stephen Gill "Outside In"

The work by Stephen Gill entitled "Outside In" was created in Brighton and Hove. Gill wanted to really capture the spirit and identity of the locations he shot and he did this by the use of a simple yet innovative technique. Stephen Gill place objects from the area he shot in between the body and lens of the camera so once shot they became masked within the image. The results are eye catching and some what quirky. Gill also used a magnifying glass to reflect sunlight into his lens to gain glares and flares within the images. This technique meant the images could only be planned to a certain level and chance played a big part in what he was creating. Here is a link from Lens culture that include a paragraph of text to accompany the series.
